New fee and accommodation arrangements were introduced when the Aged Care Act 2024 commenced on 1 November 2025.
There are 3 different fee arrangements and 3 different accommodation arrangements that can apply to residents.
Fees and Contributions you may pay
Fees and contribution arrangements that you may be required to pay, include;
Basic Daily Fee and Means Testing
All residents pay this fee for daily living services, including meals, cleaning, laundry and utilities.
The maximum fee is set at 85% of the single basic age pension. This fee increases in March and September each year in line with the age pension.
Based on your means assessment, you may also be required to pay a "hotelling contribution" and/or a "non-clinical care contribution".
Residential Accommodation Fees
You will need to agree to a lump sum Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) of between $500,000 - $600,000 for your room prior to moving into the Aged Care Facility.
You can choose to pay your accommodation costs as:
- a lump sum refundable accommodation deposit (RAD) that is refunded when you leave care, less any retention amounts and any fees that you agree to draw down from it, or
- a daily accommodation payment (DAP) that is not refunded when you leave care, or
- any combination of lump sum and daily payment.
